Walking the West Highland Way for fellow young tongue cancer patients

In the face of adversity, some individuals find extraordinary strength and resilience. Hannah, a care worker in a children’s home and tongue cancer survivor has embarked on an inspiring journey to give back to the tongue cancer community, by walking the West Highland Way to raise money for Oracle’s Young Tongues Fund.

Gratitude for the support she received and a strong desire to give back prompted Hannah to actively engage with the Young Tongues social media team. She took on the role of creating helpful content to support others who were going through similar experiences. This summer, fueled by inspiration, Hannah, accompanied by her brother Sam and Dad Steve, completed a challenging hike along the West Highland Way. The goal was to raise awareness and funds for Oracle’s Young Tongues Fund.

Together, they surpassed their target, raising over a thousand pounds for the fund. The funds will contribute to patient-focused activities, awareness campaigns, and research aimed at enhancing the quality of life for tongue cancer patients and survivors.

Hannah:

“The West Highland Way was an amazing challenge to choose. Difficult paths in places, and the weather wasn’t the best at times, but the scenery was amazing, and I am so proud to say we completed it and smashed our fundraising target too! I am pleased the funds will support others the way I have been supported, having a peer support group continues to be a precious resource in my journey.”

Steve:

“I was keen to join Hannah with fundraising for such a worthy cause. I am so proud of how far Hannah has come, and pleased she’s found invaluable support through the Young Tongues group. The walk itself was both physically and mentally challenging, but we’ve made some amazing memories and met lots of people from all over the world that were also completing the hike.”

Sam:

“The West Highland Way was fantastic, unbelievable views! I was very relieved to see the finish point each day after lots of miles, hills, rain and midges, but so glad to have taken part. I’m proud of Hannah for completing the challenge and raising funds for a cause close to her heart.”
