Barbara Fountain
Fundraising and Communications Officer

Barbara joined Oracle in Spring 2023 and has over ten years’ experience in the Event Industry. Up until recently Barbara had her own events company where she specialised in providing event experience design, planning and production services. She had also been involved in math-rock festival ArcTanGent for 9 years acting as Welfare, Safe Spaces, Accessibility and Volunteer Manager.

In 2019 Barbara was diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Tongue. Following a partial glossectomy with forearm free flap and neck dissection she struggled with the impact the diagnosis had on her mental health. The lack of opportunity to connect with peers of similar age inspired her to find peers using social media. In 2021 she founded the Young Tongues a global peer to peer support group for tongue cancer patients and survivors aged 18-64. They now support over 300 patients, hold regular virtual and in person meet ups and have a podcast titled “The Young Tongues”.

Barbara brings the lived patient experience to Oracle Cancer Trust, as well as her extensive events expertise and learnings taken from setting up the Young Tongues. She feels very passionate about creating real change for the Head and Neck cancer community.
