ESTRO - Multidisciplinary management of Head and Neck cancer conference, February 2023

About this scheme

Oracle Cancer Trust is delighted to announce a new scholarship scheme for senior Head and Neck Cancer Trainees who would benefit from financial support to attend international multidisciplinary Head and Neck cancer conferences. The scholarship is being awarded in the name of Oracle’s Founder, the late Peter Rhys Evans, who was a strong advocate of multidisciplinary and international best practice exchange.

The Oracle Cancer Trust Peter Rhys Evans Scholarship is available NOW and we are taking applications for attendance at the upcoming ESTRO - Multidisciplinary management of head and neck oncology conference in Amman, Jordan on February 14, 2023. Deadline December 31, 2022.

There will be two scholarships available in 2023. Information regarding the second grant opportunity will be provided in early 2023, please check back for further details. Every year there will be one scholarship available with a medical/oncology focus and one scholarship with a surgical focus. The next scholarship will have a surgical focus.

Eligibility

This scholarship scheme is open to ENT, Max Facial Surgery and Clinical oncology UK formal trainees or equivalent with an interest in Head and Neck Cancer as a sub-specialty. Applicants should have passed their final required exams in their specialty Royal Colleges, are at Senior Registrar or Senior Fellow level and expected to be eligible to be a Head and Neck cancer related permanent consultant post in the UK within the following 12-18 months of their application.

What is funded

Financial support of this grant can be used only to cover registration of an approved Head and Neck Cancer course/conference, associated flight expenses and up to 5 days hotel accommodation. Maximum contribution of £2,000. This can be up to £1000 for flights, up to £1000 for hotel accommodation and conference registration/courses. Please note this funding will only support economy class flights, you are welcome to upgrade at your own expense.

Requirements

Successful applicants are expected to do a reflection of the conference/course after the attendance providing perspective on the value and benefits of their attendance, key points and learnings from both a personal and an NHS perspective. Summary of their reflection may be summarised on the Oracle Cancer Trust website and receipt of this Scholarship indicates agreement to this being published. Applicants may also be requested to join/participate in an Oracle Cancer Trust Research Impact meeting.

How to apply for this scheme

Applications for this scheme are considered twice a year, and the application process has three requirements.

Application and motivation letter to attend this conference. This should be 500 – 1000 words.
Please provide CV and proof of your Senior Registrar or Fellowship post in UK in clinical oncology, ENT or maxillary surgery with an intention to be a consultant sub-speciality interest in Head and Neck cancer.
Letter of support from training program director and clinical lead.
